If the word “Skyline” could be depicted in one photo, this would be it.
Far right: Shinichiro Sakurai  Third from the left: Ryoichi Nakagawa, Prince Motor CO. president.

In 1952 Sakurai started out working for Prince before it merged with Nissan in 1966. After the merge he continued on with the Skyline program where he was the man responsible for ultimately changing the Skyline from a 4-door sedan with a bias for luxury to one of the worlds most feared GT racing machines. With the decision to house an inline six within the engine bay, the Skyline was bound for heights yet obtained by a Japanese automaker and eventually became the symbol not only of Japan’s technical prowess but for Japan itself. Staying with the Skyline programme for 32 years and up to the R31, he indeed revolutionized more than many could hope for and is indeed equal to the other greats in the automotive world today. Without his vision, the Skyline may not have continued with the legacy it has today.

Let us also remember Shurei Itoh, chassis designer of the C10 and Kozo Watanabe, project chief on the R32 Skyline GT-R.
